A Walk down memory lane...

Here's a "what's what" of some of the albums we've been privileged to have helped recover and repair. The listed albums are in no particular order, they're mostly listed as we've received them. We can't display most 78s we've recovered or repaired, as they rarely had any picture information included - that had to wait for high-speed colour printing technology to come to fruition.

As you can see, it's a very broad range of material we've worked on!

It's actually one of the more difficult aspects of the repair and recovery process : ensuring that the material we've been able to recover is true to the original recording production standards.

This is especially difficult with 78s - there were so many different methods of recording (from horn microphones to metal diaphragm pickups) and equalisation (FFRR, EMI, Columbia, NARTB for tapes, and so much more), and with a very few exceptions, the 78s we see are in terribly poor condition, so that makes recovering and repairing these recordings really challenging.

Unfortunately, most of the albums below have never been released in digital format, or if they have, the subsequent re-release was poorly produced or didn't include some material from the original recording. So the owners of these works really do have rare or even unique material. We've been really pleased to have been able to help recover and preserve these examples.

We should also note here that each of the original recordings referred to on this page are still owned by the people we recovered the albums for. Sadly, we've already had feedback on this page from "concerned parties" who believe that showing these thumbnail images breaches some copyright law or other, somewhere in the world. It's such a pity those folks don't spend a bit more time asking why some of the recording companies involved didn't re-release many such astonishingly good albums, or why some of them released such poorly-reproduced (if not downright imcompetently re-recorded in some cases) recordings. And none of the complainers see the point of a sentimental album recovery. Which just goes to show, doesn't it?
