Complete Photo and Document ServicesWhat We Do
Likewise, all of us probably have little paper packets of negatives, but it's getting more and more difficult to get these processed properly, so they stay in the shoebox until we decide to toss them out. It's even more difficult with rare or precious photographic plates, engravings, and paper documents. And don't even get us started on getting astronomical photos properly produced! Well, we can scan and touch up all your photos. Black & White, colour,
high-speed, you name it. We also have specialised scanning hardware and software that lets us scan negatives and recreate the original, full-colour photo! And to top it off, we can even scan and fix all types of film slides! Our Processes - What We Can DoWe can reliably scan original photos, negatives, and slides at up to 2400 dpi resolution (that's hardware resolution, by the way, not mathematical interpolation!). This means that we can scan and modify any photographic image, up to 8" x 12" (or 200mm x 300mm). Typically, if the images are to be viewed on DVD (see below), 600dpi is the optimal resolution for a 35mm slide. Unless you wish to manipulate and print the image yourself, higher resolutions don't make an image on a TV screen any better ("standard" TV screens - including Plasma and LCD screens - are typically 720x576 pixels, so putting a photo that's 4000x6000 pixels on the screen isn't going to be useful at all - it's just too big!). Photographs and other documents up to 12"x 9" (slightly larger than A4) can be scanned at full (2400) or high (4800) dpi resolution, at a variety of colour depths (16-bit, 24-bit, and 48-bit), to any image format you like (bitmap, jpeg, png, CMYK, EPS, sci, or Targa, just to name a few).
Once the images are on the DVD, you can play the DVD just as usual, but now your TV is a slide projector. You can let the DVD play through the images at a speed to suit you, and you can pause on a single image, fast forward, and rewind. Think of it as the most hassle-free projector you're ever going to use! If you'd like the images on the DVD to appear in order, you will need to arrange the original images in order first. We can do the rest. We can also provide a caption for each individual image, however this caption must be provided for us by you. Touching UpIn terms of image editing provided with our standard services, before the images are stored or printed, we can eliminate (or reduce) smudges, scratches, smears, dots, cracks, tears, and holes before saving them. We can sharpen, colour-balance, rotate, and adjust any image in any format to your specifications. Is the sky not blue enough? Do all your wedding guests have the Devil's eyes? We also offer additional professional services like professional digital photographic repairs, sepia toning and removal, CMYK colour seps, Pantone© colour matching, and full professional colour file output to work with Linotype or any other high-definition printing system. Fuzzy PhotosWe aren't magicians - a lousy photo will remain a lousy photo, but we may be able to clarify or expand a part of the image to reflect your original intention. But if you have out-of-focus photos that you'd like to permanently recover, as you may have seen on movies or TV, we'd recommend the CIA or NSA for all your photographic needs. Unfortunately, you'll have to contact them directly. While it is very easy to blur a clear picture, the laws of entropy make it really, really, really hard to go the other way. And, unfortunately, we must obey entropy, we have no choice. A3 or Larger DocumentsFor images or documents larger than A4, we would recommend a more specialised advertising or commercial outdoor photography service bureau. Although we can easily "pan and scan" a larger image with excellent results for printing, colour matching partial scans can be problematic (unfortunately, it's a problem for every scanner everywhere), and we would recommend that you consider the likely use of such images before getting a large image scan that may not look right on a billboard (say), or as part of an exposition!
