Proof (Judgement Page)Repairing and converting audio and video can lead to some pretty subjective judgements. We reckon that a few seconds' sound sample can convey more than a hundred web pages and arguments about "oxygen-free copper cables" and "magnetic field alignment" and "gold connectors" and other such nonsense. We firmly believe that what counts, in the end, is what you hear when we've finished your recording conversion/recovery. Years ago (in The Goode Olde Dayes), companies would provide customers with small selections of their various offerings, called 'Samplers'. Well, this is the Audiography Sampler page! We should warn you that the audio clips provided on this page are 44.1kHz stereo samples in Windows PCM (.WAV) format (i.e. CD standard), so they're pretty big files (1.9Meg each!) which is important if you have a dialup connection. PLEASE NOTE: Unlike other LP to CD sites, we DO NOT and WILL NEVER provide MP3 or RealAudio examples. We will convert your recordings to those formats if requested, but it is IMPOSSIBLE to truly compare "before" and "after" examples of our work using these formats. The reason behind this is that simply converting to these formats removes much or all of the "noise" - as well as most of the high-fidelity audio information that makes these recordings sound so sensational in the first place! There's a reason why MP3 and RealAudio and FLAC and OGG Vorbis (and all the other lossy formats) are called 'lossy' - it's because they discard enormous amounts of actual audio material in order to create smaller files. By way of comparison, a 32kHz "top quality" MP3 recording contains - at most! - 35% of the CD quality audio - and less than 8% of the original material using our normal editing and mastering processes! And we're talking about normal vocal frequencies, not 'bat hearing'. It's easy to "show" how much "noise" is taken out of recordings using MP3 formats - but it's absolutely impossible to show how little of the underlying audio has been lost during the process, because converting to MP3 formats, by definition, discards more than half of the audio material you're trying to compare. That in itself is the main reason we use the best quality, reasonably sized, audio examples. We do apologise for the size of the samples, but we don't apologise for the quality. For each sample, there's around 11 seconds of an actual recording, together with a cleaned up version, and the clicks and pops we actually eliminated (this is critical, as it shows how little of the actual underlying voice recording is modified by our processes!) Please note that these samples are provided for illustrative purposes only, and should not be assumed to be the standard level of repair we provide - in fact, these are CD-quality samples, which are some eight times reduced (in terms of audio content) to the actual recording we make! Think of the samples as photos of a beautiful painting - they're small, and clear, but they're not the same as the real thing! Sampler Number One : Click removal
2. Fixing the SkipsWe can fix most skips or jumps in the recording. To prove the point, here's a small example of a recording with a skip in the track, and here's the final recording. And remember, all this repair work is part of our standard service! We don't charge extra for it, and if we can't fix a skip or scratch, we'll tell you first! For more specific information on the kinds of services we provide, please take a look at our Services overview page. If you have any questions about any of these services, please feel free to ask us via email or phone, the contact numbers are listed at the bottom of this page; or you can ask us using our contact form. Contact InformationWe're available all day, every day, including weekends and public holidays. Because we do try to provide personalised service to everyone, we may be unable to respond immediately, from time to time, so please bear with us - we will respond as soon as possible! In most cases, we will contact you on the same business day, but if you can leave an after-hours contact number or email, we'll be happy to respond at any time that suits you.
