Welcome to Audiography!
And welcome to the 'new look' website! This isn't (hopefully)
just the internet version of a botox injection, we've tried to streamline all
the information, and we've tried hard to eliminate redundancies, while adding
more detailed content. If you have difficulty reading this site, please
let us know!
LP, tape, and video restoration services for everyone.
At Audiography we recover, repair, and convert any
analogue recordings (audio and/or video) to CD or DVD, sounding and looking
better than they ever have before.
Best of all, we don't charge an arm and a leg for an automated,
"assembly-line" mechanical transcription in one useless lump of your favourite
record, cassette, or video.
Because we enjoy doing what we're doing, we'll provide personalised,
detailed, and brilliant recoveries of your material, for a
fraction of the cost of other digitisation service providers.
So do we just fix vinyl recordings?
In fact, we provide detailed and amazing digital recovery and repair
services for all types of audio and video recordings, including (but not limited
to) :
- Records (vinyl, Bakelite, shellac,
glass/gelatin, and lacquer) - 78s, 33s, 45s, EPs, and more
- Tapes (reel, cassette, Dictaphone,
8-track)
- Rare and specialised recordings
(even wire and wax recordings!)
- Video tapes (VHS, Beta, Hi-8,
MiniDV, and more)
- Photography (slides, negatives,
photos, and documents)
For specific technical details on what the individual services can (and
can't) do, please have a look at the appropriate service page on the left, or
click one of the links in the list above.
For more general information, read on...
How
much does a conversion or repair cost?
For detailed descriptions of our service costs, please check out the
Service Costs page, but for a general idea, read
on...
Undamaged recordings (in other words, recordings you'd be happy to play on
your own equipment) cost just $35.00 for a standard
LP or C60 cassette, $55.00 for a double LP or C90
cassette, $55.00 for a 2-hour video, and slides
from just $0.95 per slide.
Don't be fooled by the ridiculously low price - all these costs
automatically include top-quality recovery with full noise reduction, click and pop reduction,
track separation, full-colour cover artwork scan (where appropriate), and full
track listings on the CD and the jewel case. We don't ever take
shortcuts, and there are no hidden costs or legal disclaimers.
And please remember - what we offer as part of our standard
conversion/repair services (track separations, track and artist listings,
cover artwork, RIAA equalisation, noise reduction, etc) may not even be
available from other service providers, or they may only provide the "enhanced
features" if you request it, and then only at additional cost. What others may
consider "Gold" or "Platinum" service, we offer as standard - just because we
can.
But what about this LP I left in the car? It's melted, dude!
If the recordings are badly damaged, that's rarely a problem. We can recover
and repair audio from cracked, warped, melted, broken, snapped, dirty, and
chewed-up recordings, and in most cases we can even recover information from
recordings that seem hopelessly damaged.
Broken tapes are a breeze, and we can help with fungus and mould-infected tapes
and discs, too.
So what will it cost to fix my melted LP?
If the record or tape is really badly physically damaged, we offer a
comprehensive recovery service that is expensive - but worth every
cent. If you have a rare, precious, or unique recording that you thought you'd
never listen to again because of warping, splitting, melting, cracking, flaking,
or sticking - don't give up. Our Intensive Care
service starts at just $75.00 per disk or tape, and
in most cases we can recover nearly all the original recording. Badly mangled
tracks can be recovered from $25.00 per track, and undamaged tracks are
covered by the Intensive Care service charge (in other words, undamaged tracks
are free)! We can't be fairer than that.
There are caveats that apply to these Intensive Care services - we
can't legally offer miracles as part of our services! - but in most cases, we
can successfully get all the audio off terribly damaged LPs and tapes, without
further damaging the recording in the process.
And
we'd like to bring up one final point - nearly all broken records, tapes, and
other recordings we receive, must be physically repaired or manipulated in order
to recover the audio or video information off them. But because of the
bewildering array of technologies used to manufacture these recordings, we can
almost never physically repair a recording in such a way as to permit continued
use of that recording. To be honest, by the time we get most damaged recordings,
the damage is so far gone, that the most we can do is extract the very best of
what remains on the recording, and our skills and tools fix the sound or images,
not the original physical recording. In most cases, we'll return
the recording in far better condition than we received it, but we just can't
reverse most heat and impact damage ("Ye canna ignore the laws of physics, cap'n!"),
so the recordings themselves, while they are protected against further
degradation, will most likely not be playable without risk of further damage. The magic we possess is in the
digital domain.
But what if I don't like the recording I get back?
We're really confident - and proud! - of the work we do, so we guarantee (in
writing!) that if you don't like the way your recording
looks and sounds when we've finished with it, you don't have to pay a cent.
In 11 years, we're really pleased that we've never disappointed a customer yet
(touch wood!). And we're still improving and enhancing our services every
day/month/year, so we can stay on top of our game and continue to provide
world-class audio and video recovery services.
Can you tell me more about your services?
For more specific information about the individual services, and what is (and
what is not!) possible, please have a look at the appropriate service page at
the left. And if you have any questions or comments that are not addressed by
the information on this site, please feel free to drop us
a line by clicking on the "Contact Us" link at the top of the page. We'll
respond to all questions and comments as quickly as possible, usually in the
same day.
What about my 8mm films? Can you convert those, too?
There's not much we can't
do with analogue and digital recordings...
However, analogue (cinefilm) recordings, as most film buffs know, need a
great deal of expertise and skill! (Anyone can point a handycam at a wall and start up a projector, but that's not even close to protecting (let alone preserving) your film records!)
So for Super-8, 8mm, and 16mm film conversions, with and without audio, we strongly suggest you deal only with
film experts. For the best results from all motion film types, try DVD Infinity, based in Sydney. These guys know
exactly what they're doing when it comes to handling and recovering film stock, and unlike most other "film converters" you'll find listed in Google, they actually preserve and convert
film the way we'd like to be able to!
But wait - there's more!
Here are a couple of examples of "outside the square" services we provide:
Feel free to add or ask for your own!
- Still have your nursery rhyme tapes or records? Put them on CD for your own kids and grandkids
to enjoy!
- Got an original, 1952 recording of Nellie Lutcher? Frank Sinatra? Billie Holiday? Bing Crosby? Get it saved now.
- What about your tapes of grandpa? Uncle Fred telling risqué stories? Your first guitar solo? Your last bagpipe solo?
- Movies of the kids growing up? First house? First car? Your debut? Put them on DVD so they don't wear out!
- Re-order or skip any tracks on any album
- Get your singles collection together on CD
- Put your favourite cassette (or 8-track) tapes onto CD before they rot
- Create your own "Favourites" CD from any original masters on any albums
(great for the daily traffic jam)
- Get rid of the awful breaks on modern reproductions of "concept" or symphonic albums
- Insert or blend different versions of tracks - on one CD!
- Group all your music types (one to get you
through the vacuuming, another to help with the mowing, one for the kids...)
- Create your own "Best Of..." albums for your favourite artists
- .. and more.
The possibilities are endless, and we'll always try to help out with suggestions, alternatives, and ideas!
Questions?
All the information on all we do (and how we do it) is contained on the
service overview page, so do check it out! If you
have more specific questions that aren't answered there, or on the specific
service pages.
Got a question? Check out our FAQ. Is your question not in our FAQ? Drop us a line!
And if you're interested in the mechanics of sound recordings and
reproduction, and what you can do to maintain your musical collection, please
have a look at our Wear & Tear page.
No-one
else, anywhere else, provides this level of service - at any price.
A Word about prices...
Even our
so-called "basic" services include individual noise reduction
(based on the actual recording, not averaged mathematical models) and noise
elimination to meet the needs of nearly all music lovers - and with prices starting
from just $StandardCost per album, tape, or photo wallet, you can
afford to keep your record, tape, video, or photo collection alive and
accessible for the foreseeable future!
Please also bear in mind that the services we define as "standard" are at least
equivalent to other "premium" or "specialist" services offered elsewhere. We
don't use cheap paper, cheap CDs, or cheap ink, and we don't take shortcuts. We want to provide the best result,
every time. And we do, every time. That's backed by a money-back
guarantee.
More details on our standard pricing policy can be found on our
service pricing page, so have a look
there first. If you find that you still have questions, please contact us by the
methods below, or fill out our Feedback form and
tell us what you have in mind. We'll investigate your needs and get back with
realistic answers!
Contact Information
We're available all day, every day, including weekends and public
holidays. Because we do try to provide personalised service to everyone,
we may be unable to respond immediately, from time to time, so please bear with
us - we will respond as soon as possible! In most cases, we will contact you on
the same business day, but if you can leave an after-hours contact number or
email, we'll be happy to respond at any time that suits you.
